The Horatio Alger Association of Canada seeds to assist students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, and a desire to contribute to society.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be considered for the Horatio Alger Association of Canada Scholarship Programs, applicants must:
- Be a current grade 11 student, with plans to enter university in the fall of 2025
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited university
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($65,000 or less net income per family is required)
- Be involved in extracurricular and community activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade percentage of 70
- Attend high school and reside in Canada
- Be a Canadian citizen
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
To apply for the Horatio Alger Association of Canada Scholarship Programs, the following items must be completed by March 15, 2024:
- An online application at https://www.horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships
- One Support Form completed online. This must be completed by an adult over the age of 21 who is not related to the applicant and who is aware of the adversities mentioned in the application. This form must be filled out online. Faxes, emails, or letters will not be accepted.
- Online Certification Form. A login will be mailed to the applicant’s counsellor. (Please notify your counsellor that they will receive an email from the Association providing instructions for how to complete the certification form online.)
- High school transcript with legend and first semester grades for grade 11. Applicants should upload a transcript through the online application. NOTE: Transcripts must include grades from Grade 9, 10, and first semester from Grade 11 and must be submitted online.
- Income Verification. A copy of your parent(s) 2022 Annual Tax Return. Applicants must submit their parent(s) 2022 Annual Tax Return. If your parent(s) have not received a Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax Credit or Notice of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for 2022 because they did not file their 2022 Income and Benefit Return (T1), include statement copies showing the amount of any government benefit (Disability Support, Social Assistance, or Employment Insurances) received throughout the whole year. Faxes/emails will not be accepted.
