A career exploration opportunity for students in grades 10 – 12 from Nackawic Senior High School, Nackawic NB

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame invites interested high school students and young adult learners in rural, remote and Indigenous communities across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador to join us online on Wednesday, December 4 to explore careers in medicine and the health sciences in our in our inaugural Discovery Days in Health Sciences ONLINE ~ Eastern Canada. Our goal is to educate participants about the vast array of careers that exist in the health sciences with the hope of sparking an interest in pursuing a career in health care.

Our full day program will begin at 8:30 am AT | 9:00 am NT on the event platform Accelevents. It comprises:

  • informative exhibits
  • a keynote lecture
  • two interactive workshops of choice pre-selected from a catalogue of options
  • discussion with a panel of academics/professionals from various related fields
  • breaks with optional peer networking opportunities

This virtual field trip is considered an individual learning opportunity. Participants will require:

  • their own email address
  • access to a computer/laptop/Chromebook with internet connection
  • headphones, microphone, webcam (optional)
  • a quiet space (at home, school or community centre/library).

For students to take part, a designated teacher must first register the school on the event page of our website at https://www.cdnmedhall.ca/ddonline/easterncanada, where you will also find our event agenda, a promotional poster, a sample workshop catalogue and info about our keynote speaker.  The role of the contact teacher is to promote the event, pass along individual registration instructions to interested students when available next week and to support their involvement by ensuring they have the required equipment, space and permissions to take part on December 4.

WORKSHOP CATALOGUE

We are in the process of finalizing the workshop catalogue and expect to post it on the event page at the end of this week. At present, the following fields will be represented in the program (either workshop or career panel):

  • Epidemiology and Public Health
  • Family medicine
  • Medical Education
  • Nursing
  • Pathology
  • Psychiatry
  • Radiation oncology
  • Rehabilitation Medicine

Although still to be confirmed, we are hopeful that Veterinary Medicine will also be represented
