Background
Amanda Desveaux joined Anglophone West School District as a French Immersion teacher in 2015–2016. From the moment she arrived at Connaught Street School, Amanda brought with her a deep love for the French language and a genuine passion for teaching children. She believed that learning should be joyful, engaging, and meaningful, and she was known for finding creative and playful ways to introduce French so that every student felt encouraged to participate and try their best, en français. This passion continued in her later role as a Subject Coordinator for French Immersion within Anglophone West School District.
Amanda’s classroom was a welcoming and positive space — one where kindness, teamwork, and creativity were valued, and where students felt safe to take risks and grow. She was loved and respected by both students and colleagues for her warmth, dedication, and collaborative spirit. As “Madame Desveaux,” she inspired her students not only to develop their language skills, but also to build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Amanda herself was a lifelong learner, and her goal was always to encourage students to continue growing in their language learning, both inside and beyond the classroom walls. In her work as a Subject Coordinator, she also supported teachers in strengthening their practices in French Second Language instruction.
This scholarship honours Amanda’s passion for French Immersion, her belief in student potential, and her lasting impact on French language education. It is presented to a student who embodies the values she held dear — enthusiasm for learning, perseverance, openness to new challenges, and kindness toward others — as a way of keeping her spirit and legacy alive.
